Although wontons are predominantly made with meat, there are creative people who come up with wontons that contain no meat. It is not only the vegetarians that benefit, we who eat almost anything can savour such creative parcels too.


Mixed vegetable wontons

This vegetarian wonton recipe uses vegetables and natural produce. It does not contain mock vegetarian products that are high in gluten. You can use frozen mixed greens to replace the green peas, carrot and sweet corn if it is more convenient.


1 packet of wonton wrappers

Filling
1 piece of firm tofu (take note that this is different from silken tofu)
50g fresh chinese or shitake mushrooms
40g green peas
60g carrot
50g sweet corn

Seasonings for filling
1 1/2 tbsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
Half a bullion or stock cube
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp pepper
2 tbsp sesame seed oil

Garnish
1 stalk of coriander leaves or chinese parsley
Salt & pepper

Directions
  1. Dice the carrot, sweet corn and mushrooms finely. You can use the food processor essay writer website

  3. Cut the firm tofu into smaller pieces. Parboil and place in cold water
  4. Mash the tofu using a sieve or in a food processor
  5. Combine the tofu and the parboiled vegetables together in a big bowl
  6. Dissolve the buillion or stock cube with a little water
  7. Add salt, buillion or stock cube juice and sugar to the vegetable mixture. Mix thoroughly
  8. Add the pepper, sesame seed oil and cornstarch. Mix thoroughly
  9. Let the mixture stand and marinate for an hour
  10. Wrap the wontons
  11. Boil water and cook the wontons. Drain and leave aside
  12. Prepare the wonton soup
  13. Pour the soup into serving bowls, add the wontons
  14. Garnish and serve
